Four Nights for Human Rights concert poster, May 11, 1982
Order an ImageThe poster pictured here advertises a rock concert benefiting Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES), an non-profit aid group begun in 1980. Performing at the concert were The Allies (1979-1985), made up of Michael Ipsen, Steve Adamek, Joe Shikany, and Dave Kincaid, and power pop quartet, The New Flamingos (circa 1982-1984), fronted by brothers Jim and David Keller.
The show was held on Tuesday, May 11, probably in 1982, and was presented by The Rocket, a free Seattle newspaper that covered local music from 1979-2000. The show was held at legendary Seattle nightclub, the Fabulous Rainbow Tavern, at 722 N.E. 45th Street in the University District. The Rainbow first opened at the same location as a beer parlor in 1936 by Frank Salvino (1902-1960). Throughout the 1960s-1980s the club was a hub for the local music scene, and hosted shows by Annie Rose and The Thrillers, The Young Fresh Fellows, Jr. Cadillac, Green River, Robert Cray, and Soundgarden.
