The Northwest Area Music Association, Inc. (NAMA) was founded in Seattle in 1987 to promote national awareness of the Northwest's thriving music scene, and provide a network for industry professionals to advance the music business within the Northwest. For several years, NAMA held an awards ceremony to honor northwest musicians and bands, as well as other music-related industries such as radio stations, music stores, and video. The 1989 NAAM Music Awards were held on Sunday, April 23, at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. The program shown here lists 56 different categories of competition. In 1987, the "Group of the Year" category was won by The Posies, and "Artist of the Year" by Robert Cray.
