Tania Maria (b. 1948) is a Brazilian jazz singer and musician who began playing the piano at the age of seven. After she came to the attention of American guitarist Charlie Byrd, he recommended her at Concord Records where she was signed and had her first internationally successful album, “Come With Me.” Ms. Maria has since recorded more than 25 albums and played virtually every important jazz festival in the world.
With the release of “Come With Me” in 1984 Tania Maria began a tour that eventually brought her to Seattle. The poster pictured here advertises her performances at the Fabulous Rainbow Tavern on N.E. 45th Street in the University District. The Fabulous Rainbow, also known as the Rainbow, was particularly known for jazz, blues, and rock music in the 1980s.
