Hugh Currin and Warren Greene founded the Currin-Greene Shoe Manufacturing Company in 1908. They built their first plant on Seattle’s Eastlake Avenue and moved in 1920 to a new plant on Western Avenue. The company specialized in specialty and heavy-duty work boots and shoes, which they sold throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The company later acquired the Rainier shoe brand and continued to sell sport, dress and light work shoes under that name. Currin-Green was sold in 1998 but the new owner continued to make boots under the Currin-Green name.
This image shows the Currin-Green Shoe Manufacturing Company plant. The Art Deco building, with tower clock and neon signs advertising Rainier Shoes, was located at 2715 Western Avenue. It housed both the factory and a retail store.
