Bumbershoot poster, Seattle, August 28-29 and September 4-6, 1976
Order an ImageBegun as "Festival '71" in 1971, Seattle's Bumbershoot has become one of North America's largest urban arts festivals, held annually over Labor Day weekend at the Seattle Center.
The Bumbershoot poster pictured here features artwork by Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000), a Seattle-based artist known for his paintings portraying African-American life. This painting was commissioned for Bumbershoot through the City of Seattle's 1% for Art Program.
