Begun as "Festival '71" in 1971, Seattle's Bumbershoot has become one of North America's largest urban arts festivals, held annually over Labor Day weekend at the Seattle Center.
The poster pictured here features artwork by Claes Oldenburg (b. 1929), a Swedish-born American sculptor known for his public art installations typically featuring large replicas of everyday objects. His painting, "Lake Union, Seattle, Wash.," was commissioned for Bumbershoot through the City of Seattle's 1% for Art Program.
