The Century 21 Exposition (also known as the Seattle World's Fair) ran from April 21, 1962, to October 21, 1962. Nearly 10 million people attended the fair. This photograph was taken in the days before the fair opened and shows NCR employees setting up exhibits of their 310 and 315 electronic data processing systems. The model 315 included the CRAM storage device, the first automated mass storage alternative to magnetic tape libraries accessed manually by computer operators. It was fitting to have a display of computer technology, the theme for the entire exposition was "Science."

The NCR (National Cash Register) Corporation is an American computer hardware, software and electronics company that makes self-service kiosks, point-of-sale terminals, automated teller machines, check processing systems, barcode scanners, and business consumables. NCR was originally established to manufacture and sell the first mechanical cash register invented in 1879 by James Ritty.
