The Aurora Bridge (officially the George Washington Memorial Bridge) is a cantilever and truss bridge that carries State Route 99 (Aurora Avenue North) over the west end of Seattle's Lake Union. Construction on the bridge piers began in 1929, and the bridge was opened to traffic on February 22, 1932, George Washington's 200th birthday. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

This aerial photograph of the bridge was taken in 1960 , looking west. The Fremont Bridge, Ballard Locks, and Ballard Bridge can be seen in the upper right section of the frame. John Fraser Vallentyne (1928-2002) was an aerial photographer for The Boeing Co. and a staff photographer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in the 1950s-1960s.
