This aerial photograph was taken during construction of Interstate 5, State Route 520, and the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, on January 18, 1962. The direction is facing east looking towards Union Bay and Lake Washington. I-5 runs across the center of the frame with the bridge beyond. Husky Stadium and the University of Washington campus are visible in the top left corner of the frame.

The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge carries State Route 520 across Lake Washington and was second bridge to cross the lake. The bridge is 1.4 miles long and crosses from Union Bay, located just south of the University of Washington, to Evergreen Point in the city of Medina. The bridge opened after three years of construction on August 28, 1963.

John Fraser Vallentyne (1928-2002) was an aerial photographer for The Boeing Co. and a staff photographer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in the 1950s-1960s.
