In 1911, Waseda University, one of the oldest universities in Japan, sent its baseball team to tour the United States and play against American teams at the invitation of the University of Chicago. The Waseda team landed at San Francisco on April 13 and played forty games across the US, traveling as far as New York. They arrived in Seattle on July 23, where they played three games against Seattle teams at Dugdale Park. Waseda played against the Victors, an amateur team supported by the Seattle Sporting Goods Company, losing 4-0; against the Old Barbees, winning 11-6; and against the semi-professional Knights of Columbus team, losing 3-2. Waseda also traveled to Everett and Tacoma for a game in each city. Professor Takizo Takasugi was in charge of the Waseda team, and when leaving Seattle he said the team had broken about even on wins and losses. After leaving Seattle, Waseda traveled to Victoria, BC and played one game there before sailing back home.
