This Monorail Yes! poster was created near the end of a long campaign to expand the Seattle Monorail line, which eventually was defeated in 2005. Initiative 41 had called for construction of a 40-mile monorail system linking Seattle's four corners to downtown Seattle to form a giant "X" and won a 53 percent majority on November 4, 1997. However financial plans and government support wavered so in November 2005 another initiative -- Seattle Popular Monorail Authority Proposition Number 1 -- was placed on the ballot by Transit Over Roads, chaired by Peter Sherwin. They proposed a shorter, 10-mile route but voters rejected the initiative by a margin of 64.5 percent to 35.5 percent, thus ending the eight-year effort to extend the Monorail.
