Company D, First Washington Volunteers, circa 1898
Order an ImageThe First Washington Volunteer Infantry was formed in May of 1898 at Camp Rogers, south of Tacoma, for service in the Spanish-American War. Over 1,000 men of the regiment served in the Philippines from November 1898 to September 1899.
Company D was one of two companies from Seattle. This photograph of the company was a standard set up for group photographs taken before deployment, with the photographer B. F. Rahmeyer taking similar shots of companies from other parts of Washington and other states.
