"I Want You For U.S. Army" poster, circa 1917

This iconic recruiting poster shows Uncle Sam pointing at the viewer and calling on them to join the US Army during World War I. It was created by artist James Montgomery Flagg, with the pose inspired by an earlier British war recruitment poster. The poster was commissioned by the Committee for Public Information, which was a US government agency intended to encourage support for the war effort. More than four million copies of this poster were made between 1917 and 1918.
