Seattle's Greatest Show, 27th Annual Fourth of Jul-Ivars poster, July 4, 1991

Order an Image
Seattle restaurateur Ivar Haglund began sponsoring 4th of July fireworks over Elliott Bay in the early 1960s, and the event grew over the years. In 1991, his 27th Annual Fourth of Jul-Ivar’s celebration at Myrtle Edwards Park had multiple co-sponsors, and featured not only the end of a car race, but also the top-name entertainers the Mamas and Papas, and Blood, Sweat and Tears. A grand finale of fireworks marked the end of the event.

This colorful poster for the July 1991 Fourth of Jul-Ivars, Seattle’s Greatest Show, is reminiscent of circus posters. In keeping with Haglund’s brand of humor, it includes a group of racing clams, a “clamacopia” of food and drink, and a small vignette of “our flounder,” Haglund himself.
