In 1975, Seattle's historic Moore Theatre was renovated and rebranded as The Moore Egyptian Theatre by Dan Ireland (d. 2016) and Darryl MacDonald, who then showed a mix of classic Hollywood revivals and foreign films. By spring of 1976 the two had founded Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), which ran from May 14-31, and featured films from several countries. The annual festival outgrew the Moore within five years, and as of 2019 has expanded to 14 cinemas for approximately 300 films. The festival maintains its operations at the SIFF Film Center on the Seattle Center campus, and shows films year-round across the street at the Uptown Cinema.

The SIFF poster pictured here advertises the third festival, held from May 11-31, 1978, at the Moore Egyptian Theatre. The poster was designed by Quite Grand Graphics and features an illustration by Henry Clive (1882-1960) titled "A Melody of Ancient Egypt."
