In 1992, the Seattle Aquarium held its first Salmon Homecoming celebration, with a month of educational events to highlight the return of salmon to the streams of their birth. In 1993, this became a four-day event called the First Annual Salmon Homecoming Celebration, held on September 16-19 and presented by the Seattle Aquarium in conjunction with the Tribal Communities of the Pacific Northwest. The celebration included a Pow Wow, 8K Salmon Fun Run, and salmon enhancement symposium. In 2001, The Salmon Homecoming Alliance became a separate non-profit organization dedicated to salmon stewardship, water quality, marine protection issues, and strengthening ties between tribal and non-tribal communities. In 2018, the organization celebrated its 26th Salmon Homecoming Celebration.

This poster advertises the First Annual Salmon Homecoming Celebration in 1993 and the Pow Wow held September 17-19 at the Seattle Aquarium. The artwork on the poster shows a salmon illustrated using Northwest Coast Native American art formline designs, with a background of a sun, mountain, and water. This design would become the logo for the event and the Salmon Homecoming Alliance.
