This photograph shows Adlai Stevenson, Don Magnuson, Al Rossellini, Henry Jackson, and Max Antin seated in a Lincoln, with four policemen looking on, about 1955.
The photograph may have been taken during the Seafair Torchlight Parade, held annually in Seattle since 1949. The Lincoln was likely loaned for the occasion by William O. McKay, whose dealership sold Lincoln cars for over 58 years. McKay was a life-long civic leader, active in the Seattle Chamber of Commerce, Community Fund drives and various automotive organizations. He was a visionary for the Seattle Seafair celebration, and in 1951 was crowned Neptune Rex II, the second Seafair king.
Dignitaries in the Lincoln include: Adlai Ewing Stevenson II (1900-1965), an American lawyer, politician, and diplomat, and the 1956 Democratic presidential nominee against Eisenhower; Donald Hammer "Don" Magnuson (1911-1979), a U.S. Congressman from the state of Washington from 1953 to 1963, and an investigative newspaper journalist; Albert Dean "Al" Rosellini (1910-2011), governor of the state of Washington from 1957 to 1965; and Henry Martin "Scoop" Jackson (1912-1983), a U.S. Congressman and Senator from the state of Washington from 1941-1979.
