On September 24 and 25, 1968, Richard M. Nixon (1913-1994) campaigned for president in Seattle. His stop in Seattle included a rally at University Plaza, a ride in a hydrofoil on Elliott Bay, and a tour of the Lockheed Shipyard. He spent the night of September 24 at the Olympic Hotel.

This photograph from his time at the Olympic Hotel shows Nixon at right, with an unidentified man, and a waitress named Bessie offering the presidential candidate a tray of donuts.
