The Crescent Manufacturing Company was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 1883 as Larsen Extract Company. By the early 20th century, Crescent was manufacturing 75 different extracts including Mapleine, as well as importing spices, coffee, and nuts.
Pictured here are sales employees posing outside the Crescent Manufacturing Company's building at Railroad Street South and South Connecticut Street, now Alaskan Way South and South Royal Brougham Way. Identified in this photo are W. O. Gilmer, Gus Zarkades, and Mr. W. J. Kahle. W. J. Kahle and his brother, J. W. Kahle, bought Crescent Manufacturing shortly before the Alaskan Gold Rush and it continued to be run by their family until it was sold to McCormick and Company in 1989.
