After large protests against the Vietnam War in 1970, University of Washington students and other activists continued smaller protests over the next several years as the war became increasingly entrenched. This hand-painted poster advertises one of these demonstrations with a frog carrying a snare drum and "peace" written on his leg. Below is a quote from Henry Thoreau, "If a man does not keep pace with his fellow companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."

This poster is signed by Donald Charles "Don" Paulson (1933-2012), a Seattle-born painter and writer. A veteran of the Korean War, Paulson was a community activist and an authority on the early gay underground in Seattle, contributing to the Seattle Gay News and co-authoring the book An Evening at the Garden of Allah: A Gay Cabaret in Seattle in 1996. He was also active in Black and White Men Together, a gay interracial organization.
