After large protests against the Vietnam War in 1970, University of Washington students and other activists continued smaller protests over the next several years as the war became increasingly entrenched. This poster identifies a May 1 march and rally, beginning at the University of Washington Husky Union Building. The event was "to support the Vietnamese people" and the poster features a reproduction of photographer Mai Nam's 1966 image of Nguyen Thi Hien, a 19-year-old women who oversaw a North Vietnamese militia. In the photo she is wearing a traditional Vietnamese Nón Lá conical hat, looking over her right shoulder with a rifle slung on it.
