Order an Image
This flier advertises a forum in support of freedom for Nelson Mandela and Leonard Peltier. Mandela was imprisoned from 1962 to 1990 for his opposition to South Africa’s apartheid regime; in 1994, he was elected president in South Africa’s first post-apartheid election. Peltier is an activist in the American Indian Movement who has been imprisoned since 1977 for the murder of two FBI agents following a controversial trial and is often considered a political prisoner. Speakers at the event included Stephanie Peltier (wife of Leonard), a representative of the African National Congress (Mandela’s political party), Gloria La Riva of the All Peoples Congress, and Native American folk musician Floyd Westerman.
