Peltier is an activist in the American Indian Movement who has been imprisoned since 1977 for the murder of two FBI agents following a controversial trial and is often considered a political prisoner. Speakers at the event included Stephanie Peltier (wife of Leonard), a representative of the African National Congress (Mandela’s political party), Gloria La Riva of the All Peoples Congress, and Native American folk musician Floyd Westerman.
