This poster advertises "Another Anti-Inaugural Ball," a party organized by Seattle's Red & Black Books and held the weekend of the inauguration of George H. W. Bush as U. S. president. The party included entertainment by local band Rumors of the Big Wave and was emceed by comedian Peggy Platt. Opened as a collective in 1979, Red & Black Books was primarily a forum for progressive political ideas and to sell non-mainstream titles. Over the years, its focus broadened to include multicultural, feminist, and gay and lesbian works largely ignored by mainstream bookstores. The store moved from the University District to Capitol Hill before closing permanently in 1999.

This item is one of many gathered by the Seattle-born author, artist, and chronicler of local drag culture, Donald Charles "Don" Paulson (1933-2012), in a collection he "dedicated to everyone who ever participated in a protest March, attended a Vigil, campaigned for Peace, Justice, Liberation, Human or Animal Rights, saved the Planet, welcomed the New Age, fought against Racism, Sexism, Ageism, Homophobia, and Abuse. And to anyone whose voice wanted to be heard in a world too often refusing to listen."
