The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) would have amended the US Constitution to guarantee equal rights under the law regardless of sex. It was passed by both houses of Congress in 1972 but was not ratified by enough states before the deadline set by Congress. As a result, it was not added to the Constitution, but it has been reintroduced in Congress multiple times since.

This flier advertises a 1976 forum in support of the ERA, sponsored by the Central Area Militant Forum and featuring speakers Margaret Trowe and Mary Lou Pierce-Dickerson ("Pierce" is misspelled as "Pieree" on the flier). Pierce-Dickerson and Trowe have both been longtime activists for women’s rights and other causes; Trowe ran in several elections for the Socialist Workers Party, while Pierce-Dickerson served nine terms in Washington’s House of Representatives.
