Draft resistance flier, Seattle, 1968
Order an ImageThough protest to conscription has been a feature of all American wars, draft resistance and draft evasion reached a historic peak during the Vietnam War. Draft Resistance-Seattle (DR), the local chapter of a larger national network, worked at Seattle colleges and high schools, alongside other antiwar groups, to organize young men eligible for military service to delay their induction.
This 1968 flier from Draft-Resistance Seattle advises young men to resist the draft by applying for deferment, becoming a conscientious objector, moving to Canada, or simply refusing. The flier also advertises DR's draft counseling services, free legal assistance, and weekly meetings held at the Free University in the University District.
