"Filipino Migration to America: the Continuing Saga" poster, September 1989
Order an ImageThis poster advertises a lecture by Fr. Renato Cruz about Filipino migration to North America. It was held on September 19, 1989 at 7 PM at the Beacon United Methodist Church. Cruz discussed the reasons that Filipinos leave their home country, their working conditions overseas, issues they face, the Philippine government's labor export program, and support emigrants receive from governments and other organizations. A quote on the poster says that the primary reason for emigration has always been the hope of better living conditions compared to the Philippines. One illustration shows Filipino emigrants with US and Canadian flags on their foreheads. The other shows an emigrant with a graduation hat underwater, reaching for a fishing lure shaped like a bag of money and the US and Canadian flags.
