In 1985, Seattle’s Teen Dance Ordinance tried to severely tighten up regulations on youth dance clubs and musical events, citing drug use, sexual abuse, and underage drinking. That year, police broke up a grunge concert at the Gorilla Gardens dance club, causing injuries and arrests. The Youth Defense Campaign organized in protest of the ordinance and the city’s crack-down.

This Youth Defense Campaign handbill describes the Gorilla Gardens incident and YDC goals and invites people to join the group’s efforts.
