Zimbabwe Medical Drive dinner and speaker flier, Seattle, November 30, 1979
Order an ImageIn November 1979, Seattle’s Rainier Community Center hosted Kumbarai Kangai, from the newly independent country of Zimbabwe. Kangai was a member of the Zimbabwe African National Union, had been active in the independence movement against white minority rule and served as a representative to the United Nations. The event, complete with an African dinner and Zimbabwean mbira music, raised money for medical programs in Zimbabwe. Kangai himself had been trained in public health in the United States.
