"Shut Down the World Trade Organization" poster, Seattle, November 1999

Order an Image
The Third Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held in Seattle from November 30 to December 3, 1999. Trade ministers and other officials from the WTO's 135 member nations met in an unsuccessful attempt to plan negotiations to further deregulate free trade. Tens of thousands of activists for many causes gathered to protest what they saw as the WTO's favoring of corporate interests over social and environmental concerns.

This poster is one of many created by groups protesting the WTO conference. The poster has a drawing of a bare foot crushing the letters "WTO," with an anarchist symbol in the background. It advertises a Global Day of Action on November 30, 1999 and May 1, 2000.

May our resistance be as transnational as capital—Shut down the World Trade Organization!—Seattle, November 20-December 5. November 30 - Global Day of Action. Mayday (May 1) 2000 – Global Day of Action. http://www.n30.org http://flag.blackened.net/global
