Jesse Calvin Wineberry (1955-) grew up in Seattle’s Central District, attended Queen Anne High School, and received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington (UW). While in law school at the University of Puget Sound (UPS), he co-founded the campus Black American Law Student Association, and was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives. Mr. Wineberry served five terms in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1985 to 1995, and was the state's first African American to be selected as House majority whip.

Here, Jesse Wineberry is pictured in front of campaign posters for his reelection run in Seattle's 37th Legislative District. At the time, Mr. Wineberry and two others were in a hotly contested race for the Democratic primary. Earlier in the year he had been selected as a Super Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in New York City.
