In 1982 the Asian Counseling and Referral Service in Seattle ran a 15-week vocational and language course to help Southeast Asian refugees in the Seattle area become more independent. Students took English class each morning, and a class in vocational skills each afternoon, to prepare them for employment as janitors or custodians.

Here, Binh Huynh displays the diploma he received upon completion of the class. Bihn owned a fabric shop in Vietnam before leaving in 1979, and now had a job as a janitor for Seattle City Light.
