Amerasian children arriving at Sea-Tac airport, February 1, 1983
Order an ImageOn February 1, 1983, sixteen Vietnamese-American children and two adults passed through Sea-Tac airport en route from Ho Chi Minh City to new homes across the U.S., with two of the chldren remaining in the Puget Sound area. This was the third group of Amerasian children to land in Seattle, out of the thousands of children fathered by Americans in Vietnam from the early 1960s until the war ended in 1975. Often shunned and abandoned in Vietnam, the children needed to be at least acknowledged by their American fathers in order to be eligible for sponsorship in the U.S.
