Painter Mark Tobey (1890-1976) was one of the defining artists of the "Northwest School," an art movement which combined natural elements of the Puget Sound area with traditional Asian aesthetics to create a novel and distinct regional style. Tobey also taught free art classes for the Seattle Music and Art Foundation. Here, he examines the work of Vera Belsky, who hopes to take one of the classes. In 1930, Vera was accepted into the program for children with exceptional artistic ability.
