Fay Jones (b. 1936) is a Seattle based artist. Born in Boston, Jones attended the Rhode Island School of Design and moved to Seattle in 1960. She had her first painting exhibit in 1970, and in the mid-1980s, she was commissioned to paint a large mural for the Westlake bus tunnel station (now a light rail station). Jones’ work has received multiple accolades, including fellowship grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Washington State Arts Commission, artist residencies, the Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, and the PONCHO Artist of the Year award.

Here, Fay Jones is photographed next to her piece “Duets,” which she painted in memory of a friend who died young. The painting depicts Jones and her friend playing a violin duet. The figure in red is Jones herself, and her friend is partly visible at the far left of this photo.
