Edgar Martinez (1963-) is a former Major League Baseball designated hitter and third baseman and, since 2014, is a hitting coach for the Seattle Mariners. He spent his entire 18-year Major League Baseball playing career (1987-2004) with the Mariners, who retired his number 11 in 2017. Martinez was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019. Edgar and his wife Holli created the Martinez Foundation, which works to provide resources, educational opportunities, and encouragement to young teachers and student-teachers of color.

This photo was taken during the game against the Texas Rangers when Martinez's teammate Ichiro Suzuki broke the record for hits in a season, but according to a Seattle Post-Intelligencer article, fans at the stadium were also in attendance to see one of Martinez's last games before his announced retirement.
