RealNetworks is a Seattle-based digital media company founded in 1994. Originally known as Progressive Networks, the company pioneered streaming media technology in the early days of the internet. It developed RealAudio and RealVideo technologies and the RealPlayer software, which allowed users to stream audio and video over the web long before it became mainstream. Over time, the company shifted its focus from media streaming to broader digital services, including mobile carrier technology, artificial intelligence, and software for facial recognition and safety applications. As of 2025, RealNetworks has offices in North America, Europe, Latin American, and Asia.
