Tim's Cascade Snacks was founded in 1986 by Tim Kennedy, along with members of his family and business partner Jeff Leichleiter. The group began working at a warehouse in Auburn, Washington to make thick-sliced chips, hand-stirring them with special rakes in kettles of oil and spicing them by hand in small batches. The brand quickly became a Northwest favorite and in 1988 was named “the best potato chip in Seattle.” The brand was later acquired by Pinnacle Foods, then in 2019 became part of Utz Brands.

Here, Tim Kennedy looks on as potato chips pass by on their way to be seasoned at the company's Algona factory. When this photo was taken in 2003, Tim's Cascade made about 70,000 bags of chips on an average day.
