Hope Solo (b. 1981) is a retired American soccer goalkeeper. Born in Richmond, Washington, Solo attended the University of Washington, where she played with the Husky team from 1999-2002, and was named Pac-10 Player of the Year in her sophomore year. After college, she played professionally for teams in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) and Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league from 2003 to 2011 before joining the Seattle Sounders in 2012, and then the Seattle Reign FC in the National Women’s Soccer League from 2013-2016.
Solo played for the U.S. Women’s National Team from 2000 to 2016, helped the U.S. win the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and won Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012. She was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2022. Nine years after retiring, Solo returned to the field in June 2025 to compete in The Soccer Tournament 2025 (TST 2025) with her team, Solo FC. Hope Solo has also been a vocal advocate for social justice and gender equality in sports.
