In November 1999, $50 million of public money was given to the Rainier Valley Community Development Fund in response to Sound Transit's plans to run light rail down Martin Luther King Jr. Way from South McClellan Street to the Boeing Access Road. The fund was distributed to those affected or displaced by the street surface light rail and its construction.
