The Seattle Center Monorail is a major tourist attraction and a public transit service that has been the subject of debate since the line was built for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. In 1997 Initiative 41 was introduced, proposing a 54-mile extension to the existing 0.96-mile monorail system. In 2002 a series of panel discussions debating the initiative were nicknamed "The Great Seattle Monorail Debates" and presented to the public at Town Hall.
