The Seattle LGBT Community Center, a program of Queen City Community Development, opened in May 2002 at 1115 E. Pike Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The Center housed various programs, projects and services for the LGBTQ and allied communities, and reached many more through its events, activities, and advocacy. In October 2002, the Center hosted the Northwest’s first Latino Lesbian and Gay Cultural Week. At the time, LGBTQ+ people in the Latino/a community, many of them immigrants, felt shunned by others in the community for defying traditional religious and cultural values. The Latino Lesbian and Gay Cultural Week sought to give visibility to the LGBTQ+ community, dispel stereotypes, and foster tolerance.

This photo shows Emma Moreno, a native of Mexico City, in front of the LGBT Community Center. An organizer of the Latino Lesbian and Gay Cultural Week at the LGBT Community Center, Moreno was also the executive director of Entre Hermanos (Among Brothers and Sisters), a nonprofit organization offering services to Latinos/as in Washington State. As of 2024, Entre Hermanos still offers help with immigration and housing, HIV prevention and care, and other services.
