India Day is an annual celebration of the anniversary of India’s independence from the United Kingdom on August 15, 1947. The celebration includes parades, cultural performances, and other events. In 2002, the India Association of Western Washington (now Indian American Community Services or IACS) held an India Day celebration that included dance performances at the Shoreline Conference Center. Here, 4-year-old Arthi Haripriyan (front) and other children wait their turn to dance the “Flavors of Karnataka.”
