Tara Davis is a former professional athlete who played on the Seattle's first women's professional basketball team, the Seattle Reign. During the 1997 offseason, Davis, who was also a track star in high school and college, worked at Cleveland High School as an assistant track and field coach. She saw the coaching role as an opportunity to support the community and make a difference in young peoples' lives. After leaving the Reign, Davis played basketball in Europe, then returned to Seattle and earned a master's in education leadership policy from the University of Washington. In 2024, Davis became the first Black woman to join the executive board of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, which governs school sports programs, continuing her commitment to community service and aiding young people.
