The DeLaurenti family’s Italian specialty grocery store was established by Pete DeLaurenti in 1946, when he purchased his mother-in-law’s small grocery on the lower level of Pike Place Market. It reopened as “Pete’s Italian Grocery” and soon became a popular specialty market selling gourmet foods, such as special breads, olive oils, and cheeses. Pete’s son, Louis “Louie” DeLaurenti took over the store in 1972, and moving it up to street level at the busy corner of First Avenue and Pike Street. In 2001, Louis DeLaurenti retired, selling the family business to three local residents who continue to run DeLaurenti Food & Wine at the same First and Pine location as of 2024.

This photo shows Louis DeLaurenti in front of a display of bottles, probably at his store.
