Order an ImageThe first Pride Week was celebrated by Seattle's gay and lesbian community in June 1974. Now called Seattle Pride, this series of events is held annually in late June to celebrate LGBTQ pride in Seattle.
The slogan of the 1994 pride march was "No Discrimination," in reference to Initiatives 608 and 610, which would deny minority status or civil-rights protection to the gay community. This photo shows Mayor Norm Rice marching in the 1994 parade, in front of the marchers from Washington Citizens for Fairness / Hands off Washington (H.O.W.). H.O.W. was created in 1993 to defeat Washington State ballot initiatives 608 and 610.
