In June 1993, the Seattle Men’s Chorus celebrated Gay Pride Week with weekend concerts featuring the works of composer Cole Porter. The show, called “Swellegant Elegance: The Life and Music of Cole Porter,” was performed for 3 nights at the 5th Avenue Theatre, conducted by chorus music director Dennis Coleman. The chorus asked Harvey Fierstein, well-known gay actor and playwright, to host the show.
