Children sheltering from rain at campground, June 22, 1993
Order an ImageIn June 1993, a fast-moving summer storm drenched the Puget Sound region, bringing rain, hail, thunder, and lightning. The soaking also made for soggy camping west of the Cascades, deterring even the most intrepid campers. Here, young campers James McGrath, Ginny Foy, Bob Howe, and Grace Jones shelter from the rain while the adults prepare food and a fire at a campground near Stevens Pass. The group had planned to camp in Eastern Washington but stopped when they heard of thunderstorms expected there, and instead would return to their home in Everett.
