In June 1993, a fast-moving summer storm drenched the Puget Sound region, bringing rain, hail, thunder, and lightning. The soaking also made for soggy camping west of the Cascades, deterring even the most intrepid campers. Here, four children, James McGrath, Ginny Foy, Bob Howe, and Grace Jones, shelter in the back of a car at a campground near Stevens Pass, while the adults cook and build a fire nearby. In the background at right, Connie Foy cooks chili and hot dogs, and at left, Jay McGrath, Jesse Jones and Josh McGrath warm up by the fire. The group had planned to camp in Eastern Washington but stopped when they heard of thunderstorms expected there, and instead would return to their home in Everett.
