The software company Attachmate Corporation was founded in 1982 by Frank W. Pritt and Tom Borkowski, and would become one of the major technology employers in the Seattle area. The company focused initially on the IBM terminal emulation market, later linking desktop PCs to IBM host computers with its connectivity software. In 2005, Attachmate merged with another major Seattle-area tech company, WRQ Inc., after both were acquired by the same group of California investment firms. In 2014, Attachmate was acquired by Micro Focus. Attachmate products became known as Micro Focus Mainframe Solutions, and are still sold by Micro Focus as of 2021.
