Here, Nita Huber stands smiling in front of the sign for her business, the King's Drive In in Tacoma. The sign advertises the restaurant's coffee, selling for only 5 cents a cup. In 1977, when this photo was taken, the price of coffee had risen to $3 per pound and most restaurants in the region charged 30 cents or more per mug of coffee. Nevertheless, Huber vowed never to charge more, joking that she needed "to get out the smelling salts" after telling her customers how low her prices were.
